NOXON - Bill passed away at his home in Noxon on Thursday, July 31, 2007, with family members by his side, after a courageous fight with cancer.
Bill was born July 19, 1944, in Missoula, to Dewey and Gladys Weltz. They returned to the family ranch in Hot Springs, where he joined his older sister Vera May. His younger brother, Joe, was born five years later.
In 1953, the family moved to Noxon, where Dewey worked for the Noxon Public School District. Bill graduated from Noxon High School in 1962, and pursued his post-secondary education at Taft Community College in California and then at the University of Montana.
Bill went on to work for Boeing in Seattle. Ultimately, Bill moved back home to Noxon and made a career as an engineer for United States Forest Service alongside his good friend and boss, Chuck Williams. Bill retired in 2001.
Bill took great pleasure in the outdoors and believed it was a privilege to live in Montana. He enjoyed all that Montana had to offer, including hunting, fishing, camping and the beautiful Noxon sunsets. Another of Bill's greatest passions was Noxon Red Devil basketball, where he was a true supporter of Noxon athletics for more than 25 years.
Bill married Peggy "Pinkie" Rasmussen in 1968, and remained married for 20 years while raising their two sons, [names omitted]. Bill was very proud of his two sons and their families.
Bill is survived by his mother and his brother; his son and his wife, along with their three children; and his younger son, and his wife, along with their two children. [Survivors names omitted.]
Bill's sister, Vera May and father, Dewey, preceded him in death.
