One of the earliest and oldest pioneers of this vicinity, Anders Hansen Solem, was called to his eternal reward last Thursday afternoon, having reached the ripe old age of 81 years, 8 months and 20 days. Death came as a release after three weeks of suffering from a stroke of apoplexy and attendant complications.

Deceased was born in Krogstad socken, Sweden, November 11, 1839, and emigrated to Norway at the age of 18. After a 22 years residence in that country, he came to America in 1879 and lived at Litchfield, Minn., until 1880 when he located six miles west of Fingal. In 1883 he moved to Valley City where his wife died the next year. In 1885 he moved to Griswold, homesteading 80 acres in sec. 10, Prairie townsiip, and has made his home here ever since.

Four sons and three daughters survive, viz, Olof of LaMoure, Charles J. of Litchville, Ludvig of Minneapolis, Anton of St. Paul, Mrs. S. S. Olson of Litchville, Mrs. Ed Peterson of Marion and Mrs. P. Strinden of Hastings; also 23 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Deceased was one of a family of nine of whom all are dead except a sister, Mrs. Thorvald Lee of Fingal.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon from the Immanuel Hall, Rev Lasseson officiating. The pall bearers were John M. Olson, Lewis M. Olson, A. E. Rockswold, S. O. Kulseth, C. O. Bjerke and J. N. Lekvold. Interment was made in the Old Griswold cemetery. Among those from a distance who attended were Mrs. Bert Fisher of Greenway, S. D., Mrs. T. Lee of Fingal, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Lee of Eastedge, Mrs. Hogstad of Nome and Miss Hilda Lee of Fingal.
