The Empire called Australia's sons,
And did not call in vain;
Full willingly they left their homes,
By sea, in town, or plain,
And gladly "did their bit."
And many a well-loved lad of ours,
We shall not see again;
He lies far off in foreign grave,
'Neath foreign sun or rain-
Because he "did his bit."
