Another Old Soldier Dead

On Saturday morning General Thomas A. Smyth Post, No. 1, G. A. R., lost its second comrade within a week in the death of Joseph E. Lowden, a carpenter in the employ of the Jackson and Sharp Company, who lived at No. 924 Poplar street. The past had only on Thursday buried Thomas J. Snyder with the honors of war, and on Next Wednesday they will perform the same solemn rites over the remains of Lowden. Deceased was also a member of Diamond State Castle, No. 10, KJ. G. E., which, at its meeting on Saturday night, decided to attend the funeral and invite all the sirs knights of sister castles to unite in paying the last tribute to the memory of the dead brother. Smyth Post will make arrangements for the funeral to-night.

Joseph E. Lowden, an ex-soldier, was buried with honors of war yesterday afternoon at Riverview Cemetery. General Thomas A. Smyth Post, No. 1, G. A. R., turned out about thirty strong, and Diamond State Castle, No. 10, K. G. E., of which the deceased was a member, sent a delegation of about ten members. A few of his fellow workmen from the works of the Jackson and Sharp Company were also present. The pall-bearers were selected from the Grand Army and the Knights of the Golden Eagle. Impressive services were held in the Union M. E. Church and at the grave, where the Grand Army and Knights of the Golden Eagle ceremonies were performed.
