Rose A. (Slaby) Coverdill, 77, of Enfield, entered peacefully into Eternal Life, on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017 in the comfort of her home. She was the beloved wife of Richard Coverdill. Rose was born on Jan. 27, 1940 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Alex and Jane Slaby. She was a graduate of Washington H.S. South Bend, IN and had resided in Enfield for the past 55 years and in Chelsea, MA before that. Rose served her country proudly with the U.S. Navy, stationed in Great Lakes and Chelsea Naval Hospital as a medic. Prior to retiring Rose was employed with Walbaum’s Foodmart for 30 years with good friends and co-workers, Joan Michaels, Sue Fiore and Sandra Booth. She was a member of The American Legion, Buck-Dubiel Post 101 Somers, CT, and the Polish National Alliance. Rose was very proud of her Polish heritage, she enjoyed reading, crafts, traveling and watching Notre Dame Sports & UCONN Women’s Basketball, but her greatest joy was spending time with family especially her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband Richard of 56 years, she is also survived by her two sons; Richard Coverdill & wife Pam of Somers, and Joseph Coverdill & Ming Byrne of Tampa, FL, her three beloved grandchildren; Sean, Brendan and Alexander Coverdill, as well as her siblings; Mary Jane Tekip of Port Charlotte, FL, Stella Chlebowski of South Bend, IN, Vincent Slaby of South Bend, IN, David Slaby of Chattanooga, TN and Wanda Bain of Schaumberg, IL, along with many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother Aloysius Slaby, two sisters Pat Luberts and Carol Friend, and a brother-in-law Eugene Chlebowski.

The family would like to thank the Trinity Health of New England, Home & Community Hospice Program staff, especially Lisa and Marissa for the compassionate and wonderful care given to Rose.

Rose’s family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, Dec. 18, 2017, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, Enfield, CT. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017, with the funeral procession forming at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Adalbert Church, Enfield for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Patrick’s King Street Cemetery, Enfield. Memorial donations in Rose’s memory may be made to St. Raymond of Penâfort Parish 64 Pearl Street Enfield, CT 06082 or Closer to Free Ride (Yale Cancer Research & Hospital), send checks made out to CTF c/o Richard Coverdill, 64 Sokol Rd, Somers CT 06071.
