Chapel Services for Hiram “Hymie” Felding Bradford, II will be held at 11 on Tuesday, October 31, 2017, in the Chapel of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Dennis Dunn officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held from 9 A.M. until time of service on Tues, Oct 31, in the Kramer chapel.
Hiram “Hymie” Felding Bradford, II, 77, of Alexandria, passed away on Friday, October 27, in his residence.
Hymie is preceded in death by his parents, Glenn Ulrich Bradford, Sr. and Madelyn LaBorde Bradford Sibley; two uncles, W. Ray Bradford, Sr. and James H. Bradford, Sr.; and one aunt, Grace Bradford Fairbanks.
Hymie was born in Alexandria, La on June 21, 1940, to Glenn Ulrich Bradford, Sr. and Madelyn LaBorde Bradford Sibley and was the oldest of four children. Hymie attended Pineville High School in 1958 where he was president of the senior class and captain of PHS band. He also was co-captain of the basketball and baseball teams. Hymie attended Louisiana College in 1966 and graduated with a B.S. in Physical Education and Journalism. While a student at LC, Hymie was the #1 player and captain on the Wildcat golf team from 1963-1965. Hymie also was voted Outstanding Intramural Athlete by his fellow competitors.
Hymie served as a board member and President of Central La. Chapter of Life Underwriters and he served as a life insurance agent for over 40 years. Hymie was also the former board member and President of the Louisiana College Alumni Association and LC/Wildcat Athletic Association.
Hymie retired from the Rapides Parish school system in 2003, having taught and coached in elementary education and has been the voice of many high school football games on the radio since the 1980s. Hymie loved his LC Wildcats and voiced the LC basketball games for 25 years, as well as, the football games since 2000. More recently, Hymie was the PA announcer for the LSUA basketball.
Hymie loved to golf and held a 2 handicap for most of his competitive amateur golf career, covering the years from 1962 to 1989. Hymie was a Rapides Golf and Country Club Champion, a three-time runner up in the City Championship, and numerous other tournaments. Hymie served as a temporary manager of the Fort Polk Golf Course in Leesville.
Hymie and his wife, Cheryl, reside in Pineville.
Hymie is survived by his wife of 13 years, Cheryl Dupree Bradford; son, Randall Beauregard Bradford and wife, Melissa; two daughters, Camille Bradford Zander and husband, Scott, and Alison Bradford Strojny and husband, Stephen; two step-sons, Glenn Douglas “Doug” Corley and wife, Michele and Christopher “Chris” Corley; four grandchildren, Abbie Bradford, Bennett Bradford, Ava Zander, and Olivia Strojny; two step-grandchildren, Brian Corley and Jason Corley; along with numerous relatives and friends.
Pallbearers honored to serve will be Corky Yates, Bill Funderburk, Frank Boyd, Mason Hays, Mike Peevy, and Steve Boniol. Honorary Pallbearers include Mike Bradford, Bill Bradford, Jonathan Bradford, George Bradford, Bennett Bradford, Bob Boisvert, and Robert Corley.
