Ivor - Blanche H. Akers, 90, of Ivor and formerly of Norfolk, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. Born in West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Vent and Jessie Hopkins. She was the wife of the late Andy J. Akers, Sr. Blanche was a longtime member of Millfield Baptist Church, a member of the Eastern Star and dedicated her life to providing for her family. She was also preceded in death by her son, Andy J. Akers, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Joan Morrison; grandchildren, Robert J. Morrison, Jack and Samantha Hubbs, and Denise Jarvis; great-grandchildren, Jonathan Mulder, Jessica Schnur, and Kyle Jarvis; four great great-grandchildren; and sisters, Evelyn Hopkins, Louise Warden and Ruth Hopkins.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 23, at 1 p.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 8100 Granby St, Norfolk, VA 23505. The family will receive friends at the Wakefield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Millfield Baptist Church, 31389 Millfield Rd., Wakefield, VA 23888
