The following article was complied from a Bourbon County newspaper by a local historian: "Served as a Private in the Confederate Army, Co. C, 9th Reg, KY Cavalry. Also known as BENJ DYKES and surname DIKES. He was wounded at Snow Hill, Tennessee in 1863, to close of war at Washington, Georgia, 8 May 1865. Married Molly Burden 17 Dec 1867 who was born in 1848 and died 27 Jan 1919. Drew pension 2629. He was born 1842 Millersburg and died 1 Sep 1904. Paris Distiller and Teamster."

The following obit was listed in a Bourbon County newspaper dated Sep. 2, 1904: "DYKES, Benjamin, age 61 years. Funeral will take place from the residence. Burial in Paris Cemetery. The deceased was a former and gallant Confederate soldier. The following old soldier comrades will act as pallbearers. Russell Mann, Dr. W. H. Current, E. P. Clark, Alex Talbott, A. T. Forsythe and Newt Current."
