John Barber and Rhoda Hewitt, daughter of Richard & Susanna Hewitt, had the following children, all of whom were born in Milford, MA:

Emma Jane Barber, b. May 18, 1846
James G. Barber, b. Apr. 21, 1848, d. Oct 12, 1848

John was a Bootmaker from Milford, MA who enlisted on 10 Nov 1863. As a private in Company H Massachusetts 2nd Heavy Artillery Regiment, he was captured on 20 April 1864 in Plymouth, NC and taken to Andersonville prison. After 6 months in Andersonville, GA, he was transferred to Florence, SC where it is believed he died in the fall of 1864 as a POW.
