Emil Julius Larson was born in Fillmore Co., MN February 20, 1873. In 1879 he moved with his people to the homestead north of Lake Preston. He attended Augustana College in Canton for two years, and on April 1, 1898 was united in marriage with Miss Bertha Nelson of Hetland. To this union seven children were born. Four died in infancy.

Following his marriage in 1898 he farmed for three years one mile south of Arlington. In 1901 he started in business as a blacksmith in which he continued for thirty-nine years. During his life he loved to read. Reading and hunting were his favorite pastimes. Those who knew and loved him grieve his passing as he was a sincere friend and a devoted husband and father.

Mourning his passing are his wife Bertha, his daughter Anneda Platzer of Proctor, MN, and Clifford and Bernice of Arlington, and four small grandchildren. There are also three sisters and four brothers: Hilda Hanson of Aberdeen, Agnes Torkildson of Lake City, Ida Ostroot of Lake Preston, Lewis of Minneapolis, Ed of Brookings, Will of Chicago, Henry of Lake Preston, and Gus of Douglas, ND.

Funeral services were held in the Lutheran Church and burial was in the Lake Whitewood Cemetery.
