Mr. Brown was born May 2, 1949 in Cumberland, the only child of the late John Jackson Brown and the late Alice Doman Brown Wertman.
John was a life-long bachelor. His next of kin is one of many cousins he was close to, Linda Fazenbaker of Frostburg.
He was a graduate of Fort Ashby High School in Fort Ashby, W.Va., a 1970 graduate of Potomac State College of West Virginia University, Keyser, W.Va. At Potomac State he was a member of Sigma Phi Omega honor fraternity and Theta Sigma Chi social fraternity. John was a 1972 cum laude graduate of Allegany Community College in Cumberland, and a 1976 graduate of University of Baltimore in Baltimore.
Mr. Brown was a retired computer specialist with the US Army, CECOM. Intelligence Electronic Warfare Directorate.
He was a member of Chapter 180, National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Chapter 114, American Active Retired Person (AARP), and of the Winchester Medical Center Auxiliary.
John was also a member of the Mall Walkers at Apple Blossom Mall, a member of the Glen Burnie Historical Home and Museum of the Shenandoah Valley, a long time member of the Breakfast Bunch at Papermill Place in Winchester and a Friend of the Handley Regional Library.
He was an amateur photographer and enjoyed traveling and reading.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, Dec. 31, 2010 at 10 a.m. in Ebenezer Cemetery, Romney, W.Va.
His family will receive friends on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester.
