Ole Christian Hanson was born on the Furua farm, near Gran, in the Hadeland District of Norway (just a few miles north of what is now Oslo). His parents were Christian and Olea Hanson. On April 23, 1869 Ole C. and his parents and brother Hans left for America. First they lived for a time in rural Fillmore Co., MN near where Christian's father had settled. Then Ole C. and his family moved north to Clinton County, Wisconsin.

According family oral history, when Ole C. was about 17 years old, he headed to Fargo, ND. Apparently he visited relatives that had settled at Tansem, Clay Co., MN. While there, he met his first cousin Karine Hanson, the daughter of his uncle Stephen Hansen Furua. The first cousins married on November 9, 1893.

The young couple first lived at Barron Co., WI where Ole's parents had settled. Then they moved to Pelan, in Roseau Co., MN to homested. Next they moved to Spooner (East Baudette)to what was then Beltrami Co., MN. In about 1951, Ole and Karine moved to Duluth, to live with their daughter Sylvia Moen and her family. Ole C. died in Duluth on July 24, 1956 and was buried at the Elm Park Cemetery, Baudette, Minnesota.
