*** Major Kane was a member of the Marine Composite Squadron 1, Marine Air Group 11, 1st Marine Air Wing. On September 12, 1967, he was flying in a McDonnell Phantom II Reconnaissance Fighter (RF-4B) when it crashed in Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
