Mabel Clare Meek, daughter of John and Nannie Meek was born in the Upland community November 1, 1888, and died at the Dickinson County Memorial hospital October 3, 1956, at the age of 67 years. Death came following a lingering illness, and several weeks of hospital care. She made her home in the Upland community and on Nov. 11, 1909 she was married to Taylor Dobbins. They made their home on a farm in the Upland community. Four children were born, two sons, Arnold Dobbins and Dean Dobbins, and two daughters, Phyllis Schmutz and Bernice Potter. She attended the Zion Methodist church. Her main interest was her home and her family, and she gave untiringly of herself for the welfare of both. Surviving are her two sons, Arnold Dobbins of Thedford, Neb., Dean Dobbins of Moab, Utah; two daughters, Phyllis Schmutz of Abilene, Bernice Potter of Industry; two brothers, Clyde Meek of Detroit, Mich., Price Meek of Garden City; one sister, Maude Juon of Upland; also ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 5, at the Danner Funeral home in Abilene, with the Rev. G. P. Minner and the Rev. D. W. Frogge in charge. Mrs. Alberta Gomel was at the organ. Mrs. Charles Kiekel and John Bebermeyer sang "Beyond the Sunset" and Mrs. Kiekel sang "Going Home". Pallbearers were Al Frohardt, Don Frohardt, Ray Allgire, Gene Price, Arnold Zumbrunn, and Cal Jones. Burial was in the Upland Community Liberty cemetery.
