Jan 10, 1948 - Oct 18, 2012 OKLAHOMA CITY Oliver Henry Douberly, III, 64, was born in Savannah, GA and passed away in OKC. He retired in 2011, after 23 years, from the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help as the Director of Music and Organist. Mr. Douberly received the Bachelor of Music degree from Jacksonville University in 1970. After a year of study at the Eastman School of Music, he then attended OU, where he received the Master of Music in organ. His extraordinary gift for music resulted in a number of honors including the Concerto Competition at OU. After completing all coursework towards a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Oklahoma, he was awarded an organ fellowship at Washington Cathedral in 1972. A highlight of Oliver's performances was during the summer of 1999, when he served as the Maestro for a performance for Pope John Paul II in Rome conducting the Our Lady's Cathedral Choir and other area choirs. Oliver loved cooking and gardening and his many friends. Oliver is survived by his life partner, Darwin Bragg. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 23rd at St John's Episcopal Church, 5401 N Brookline. Donations, in lieu of flowers, to the Organ Restoration Fund at St John's.
