Ethel B. Harnish, 86, of Star Route, Alexandria, died Thursday, May 12, 1983, at 8:40 p.m. in the Valley View Haves Nursing Home in Belleville, where she had been a guest since Nov., 1982.
Born May 29, 1895, in Hartslog Valley, she was a daughter of the late Frank L. and Lizzie (Isenberg) Black. She was united in marriage with Arthur Erle Harnish on Nov. 14, 1918, in the parsonage of the Abbey Reformed Church of Huntingdon with the Rev. D. E. Masters presiding. Mr. Harnish preceded in death on April 8, 1963.
She is survivied by three children, Robert E. and Donald L., both of Star Route, Alexandria and Mrs. Donald (Louise) Poet of Hellam, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Freda Tussey of Martingsburg, Mrs. Mildred B McCall of Huntingdon R. D. and Mrs. Catharine B. Clark of Smithfield.
One daughter and a brother preceded in death.
A member of the United Presbyterian Church of Alexandria, she was a member of the W. E. Stewart Missionary Society and active in the auxiliary to the Presbyterian Home. She was a member of the Hartslog Valley Grange as well as the state and national grange.
She had attended Altoona High School and Juniata College.
Services will be held Sunday, May 15, at 2 p.m. at the Grove Funeral Home, Alexandria. The Rev.John C. Dean will officiate. Interment will be made in the Alexandria Presbyterian Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home Saturday May 14, from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to the hour of the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alexandria United Presbyterian Church or the Juniata Valley Ambulance Assn. of Alexandria.
