FUNERAL HELD FOR FORMER GLENDO MAN

Funeral services were held here Monday at Stark's Chapel for George Jacob Snyder, 73, who died May 18 at Casper. Burial was in Douglas Park Cemetery. Mr. Snyder was a long-time resident of Glendo and was postmaster there for a number of years.

Snyder Funeral Held at Douglas

Funeral services were held in Douglas on Monday afternoon for George J. Snyder, 73, Casper resident since 1945, who died suddenly at his home here, 356 South Kimball, Friday. Interment was made in the Douglas cemetery.

Active pallbearers were his sons, sons-in-law and John Weimer, all of Glendo. Honorary pallbearers were George Collins, Gordon Wilson, Ralph McClure, Ora Leech, all of Glendo, John Bansept of Lander, Bill Hughes and Fred Searle of Wheatland.

Mr. Snyder was born May 15, 1878, in Hallsville, N. Y. At the age of 3 months, on the death of his father, his family moved to Victor, N. Y., where he attended grade and high school. After attending a business institute at Rochester, N. Y., he was employed a short time by the New York Central railroad. He then moved to the west coast, where he engaged in the lumbering industry for a couple of years. He moved to Douglas, Wyo., in May, 1901.

In 1903, he was married to Bessie Marion French. The couple moved to Glendo in 1907. In 1922, Mr. Snyder was elected the first mayor of that town. Later that year he became the postmaster, a position he held for 23 years. He will be remembered in the highest regard for his efforts in civic and community affairs of Glendo and its vicinity. He was a member of the Congregational church. Upon his retirement in 1945, Mr. and Mrs. Snyder moved to Casper to make their home.

Mr. Snyder is survived by his wife, three sons, George J. of Lander, Eugene E. of Ogden, Utah, Lee R. of POwell, and two daughters, Mrs. A. T. (Catherine) Covington of Casper, Mrs. Cleo (Martin) Neely of Cheyenne, one brother, Everett J. Norton of New York state, three sisters, Mr. B. W. Doyle, Mrs. H. B. Bard, Mrs. W. T. Carpenter, all of San Diego, Calif., and by eleven grandchildren.

The body lay in state Sunday afternoon at the Bustard funeral home. It was taken to Douglas Monday for services Monday afternoon at 2:30. Burial will be in the Douglas cemetery.
