Hope Gladys Dorsey is the daughter of John Washington and Mryta Mae (Johnson) Dorsey.

She first married Charles William Hammond, son of Charles Frank and Sarah Jane "Jennie" (Hickie / Hickey) Hammond, on Aug. 28, 1937 in Unionville, Putnam County, Missouri. They made a home in Nevada, Iowa. Charles was murdered on Jan. 26, 1946 at their home in Nevada, Iowa by a family acquaintance.

A few years later Gladys went on to remarry Clyde W. Jones on Nov. 18, 1949 in Leavenworth, Leavenworth County, Kansas

Gladys Jones, 89 of Unionville, Missouri, died Sunday, February 14, 1999 at the Putnam County Care Center.

The daughter of John W. and Myrta (Johnson) Dorsey, she was born February 22, 1909, in Putnam County*, Missouri. On August 28, 1937, she was united in marriage to Charles Hammond in Unionville, Missouri. He preceded her in death 5 years later. She then was married to Clyde Jones on November 18, 1946 in Leavenworth, Kansas. He also proceded her in death.

She is survied by one step-son, Sonny Jones of Kansas; one sister-in-law Ilene Dorsey of Springfield, Missouri; and 9 nieces and nephews.

Besides her husbands, she was proceded in death by her parents, one sister, three brothers, and two infant brothers.

Gladys was raised in Putnam County and attended the Wolf Rural School. She lived and worked in the home most of her life here in Putnam County, spending a short time as a hospital cook in Springfield, Missouri area. She loved to sew and cook, she was devoted to and loved her neices and nephews, and had a great love for life.

She was a member of the Unionville United Methodist Church.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 17, 1999 at the Playle & Jones Family Funeral Home with Rev. Gailya Dow officiating. Musical selections will be "How Great Thou Art" and "I'll Fly Away." Pallbeares are Leif and Kyle Graham, Ray, Dale, Jim, Gary, and Johnny Dorsey. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery.

Visitation was held Tuesday, February 16, with the family receiving friends between 6 and 8 p.m.
