"The death of Miss Mary Jane Silliman occurred just before midnight Friday of last week at her home at Toddsville, her passing having occurred on her ninety-sixth birthday. Death resulted from a gastric intestinal hemorrhage which she suffered for only a few hours. She had enjoyed good health throughout the winter, was in possession of all her faculties and had performed her usual tasks despite her advanced years. Born March 15, 1844, in Prattsville, she was the daughter of Gould Selleck Silliman and Lucretia Elizabeth Sines. She had been a resident of Toddsville the last eighty-four years, where for many years she was engaged in dressmaking, and had won the high esteem of a wide circle of friends. A sister, Miss Melissa Sally Silliman, ninety-one years of age, is an only survivor, excepting a nephew, Ervin F. Silliman, of New Hartford, and several cousins. Another sister, Mrs. Frances Silliman Butts, died March 29, 1939, in her ninety-third year ... Interment will be made in the Fly Creek cemetery in the Spring."
