Mrs. Sophia Ashton, a pioneer of this city, died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Brooks, in Indianapolis, on the 27th, aged 80 years, and will be buried in New Albany at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning. Deceased had resided in New Albany nearly seventy years, during all of which time she was highly esteemed for her many amiable qualities. She was one of the small band of pioneers that founded the Christian church in this city, and continued a faithful member of that church until called from labor to reward. She was the widow of the late Isaac Ashton and mother of the late Capt. George H. Ashton, of Isaac Ashton, Henry Ashton, of St. Louis, and Mrs. Brooks, of Indianapolis. - New Albany Ledger 28 Sep 1886
