LAFAYETTE – Hunter W. Johnson, 70, a native of Montgomery County, died Monday afternoon at 4 o’clock at his home here. He had been ill a year and death was the result of complications. Born April 4, 1882 near New Market, he was the son of Theodore and Olive Hinkle Johnson [should read Alice, not Olive]. He married Callie May Hicks at New Market on Nov. 1, 1903. She preceded him in death two years ago. He was a member of the New Market Baptist Church, F&AM Lodge No. 123 and the OES, Hope Chapter No. 5. Johnson was retired after serving 20 years as a member of the Purdue University police department. He had also worked four years at the Duncan Meter Electric Shop in Lafayette. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Eva Heiland of Lafayette and Mrs. Esther Danley of Attica; two sons, Everett and Edwin, both of Lafayette; a sister, Mrs. Blanche Hite, of Crawfordsville, and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock from the Congress Street Methodist Church with Rev. Earle Heimburger officiating. Burial will be in the Rest Haven Cemetery at Lafayette. Friends may call at the residence at 618 S. 29th St, after 7 o’clock Tuesday evening.
