Frances Charlton

Frances Spaulding Charlton, 72, long a community worker and volunteer, died Tuesday of a stroke in a local hospital. She had made her home with her surviving husband, David Berry Charlton, at 1834 SW Vista.

A member of the pioneer Hoyt family, Mrs. Charlton was graduated from St. Helen’s Hall and Mills College. She was a life member of the Fruit and Flower Day Nursery and the Portland Art Museum, and a past board member of the Women’s Convalescent Home and the Portland Mills College Alumnae.

Active in Trinity Episcopal Church, where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Mrs. Charlton was a member of Trinity Altar Guild, the Church Vestry and the Women of Trinity. She also was a member of the Doernbecker Guild.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Charlton is survived by two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Labadie and Phyllis McKenna; two sons, John B. and Richard T.; a sister, Mary Helen Clair, and ten grandchildren, all of Portland.

The family suggests remembrances be contributions to the Trinity Episcopal Church Endowment Fund or Oregon Episcopal schools.
