Blockhus Funeral Held Thursday

Funeral service was held for Mrs Halvor Blockhus Thursday afternoon at 2pm in the St Olaf Lutheran church, with Rev. E O Ulring conducting the service. A ... service was held at 1:30pm in the Burnham funeral home. Pallbearers were Fred Weitenhagen, Carl Stendel, Joe Schmelzer, Raymond Drewes, Paul Hammond, Oelwein, and Dale Monnahan, Cedar Rapids, all sons-in-law of the deceased. Burial was made in the West Union Cemetery.

Jorgina Blockhus, daughter of Iver and Anne Gilbert, was born May 25, 1869, on a farm in Clayton county. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was affiliated with the St Olaf Lutheran Church in West Union.

On Sept 17, 1891, she was united in marriage to Halvor Blockhus. To this union were born ten children, six girls and two boys. They are: Anna, Mrs Paul Hammond, Oelwein; Clara, Mrs Weitenhagen; Agnes, Mrs Carl Stendel; Josie, Mrs Joe Schmelzer; Helen, Mrs Raymond Drewes; Gladys, Mrs Dale Monahan, Cedar Rapids; Elmer, Joe, Louis and Ervie all of West Union

On Sept 17, 1941, relatives and friends gathered to help them celebrate their golden wedding anniversary.

Beside her children, she is survived by her husband, 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a step-mother, Mrs Barbara Berg, Rushford, Minn; two half brothers, Nels Gilbert, Clermont, and Oscar Gilbert, and a half sister, Mrs Henry Wilson, Rushford, Minn.
