Barbara Brannigan Battey, of Columbia, SC, died Saturday, October 13, 2012. She was 83/

Born in Providence, RI, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Mildred Heeks Brannigan.

A member of St. John's Episcopal Church on Wheat Street, she graduated from the Roger Williams General Hospital School of Nursing.

Barbara worked as a registered nurse (R.N.) in several states. She served on the Council at Finley House for ten years.

Surviving are her husband of 61 years, William Henry "Bill" Battey; son, William C. Battey of Hanahan; daughter, Karen L. Kunkel (Ken F.) of North Ridgeville, Ohio; sister, Ruth Elliott of Pawtucket, RI; and two grandchildren, W. Brian Battey (Ali) of Kansas City, MO, Jennifer Franklin (Jerry) of Tampa, FL; and two great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her brother, Elmer Brannigan.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., October 17, 2012, at St. John's Episcopal Church, Wheat Street. Burial will take place in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery at 12:00 noon.
