A native of Rowan County, he was born September 26, 1917 to the late Mary Kirk Miller and Coy Miller. He was in the Navy for eight years, serving his country during WWII in the South Pacific as Chief Ship Fitter on board the USS Talamanka and the USS Dickens. After the war he worked at Morris Jewelers for 47 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Claude is survived by his much loved wife of 67 years Oais K. Miller, daughter Ann Costner and her husband Jim of Gastonia, son David Miller and his wife Wanda of Gastonia, grandchildren Sandy Larson and husband Andy, Michelle Howell and husband Jerry, Robert Miller and Cameron Sherrill, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Oscar and B.A., sisters Vera Russell and Lillian Bailey and one daughter Judy Sherrill.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in the Founders Chapel of McLean Funeral Directors.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment with military honors by the Gaston County WWII Last Man Club and the U.S. Navy will be at Gaston Memorial Park.
