DONNA M. KASPER

Donna Mae (Crawford) Kasper, daughter of Howard E. and Glenda Annetta (Dale) Crawford, was born in Wayne County, Iowa at the Crawford home farm south of Humeston on April 24, 1939 and died March 2, 2012 at Legacy Lodge Hospice House at the age of 72 years, 10 months and 7 days.

She was the second daughter in a family of three. Donna grew up on the farm attending grade school at Maple Grove. She spent her Jr. High and High School days at Humeston where she was a cheerleader for the Wildcats and where she met her husband, Don. After high school she moved to Des Moines and worked for Bankers Life Insurance.

Donna was united in marriage to Joseph Donald Kasper on December 1, 1957. To this union four children were born: Kimberly Kay, Tamra Jo, Daniel Joseph and Nicholas Scott. She was baptized into the Baptist faith at Unity Church south of Humeston when she was a young girl, later joining the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in 1963 where she is still a member.

Donna and Don farmed south of Chariton from 1961 until Don died August 18, 1885. Donna worked at the Kandy Kane Daycare and later she and Annie Shanks purchased the Double Dip in 1978. She started working at the Chariton Newspapers in May of 1989 and retired November 9, 2009 due to health reasons.

Donna had a passion for baking and truly loved it. For 45 years she baked birthday cakes, graduation cakes, made cookies and her specialty was wedding cakes. She took a lot of pride in her cakes and each and every one was made with perfection.

Some of Donna's favorite things to do over the years were bowling, the Jaycettes, square-dancing, playing cards, involvement with her kids in 4-H and scouts, caring for the flowers at the church and belonging to the Women of Sacred Heart and Yakkity Yak Club. Donna loved planting flowers and her yard was always so beautiful.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Don Kasper, parents, Howard and Glenda Crawford, in-laws, Joe and Vi Kasper, stepfather, Maurice Hill, grandson, Cody Trembly and son-in-law, Tony Kunch and nephew, Curtis Crawford.

Donna leaves to mourn, her daughter, Kim (Ron) Trembly of Chariton, Tammy (Mike) Cox of Neptune Beach, FL, two sons, Dan (Bev) Kasper and Nick Kasper of Chariton; eight grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret (Gary) Dillow of Soddy Daisy, TN; brother, Bob (Sharon) Crawford of Leon; sister-in-law, Jolene Bonney of Ankeny and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends and relatives.
