Civil War veteran: He enlisted on August 6, 1862 as a Private and was mustered in to Company F, 35th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment.
He was discharged for wounds on November 22, 1862.

He was a son of David Brooks and Olive Bickford Brooks.

David married Josephine A. Marston, a daughter of Daniel & Sarah Marston, on March 11, 1867 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
