OBITUARY:
IREA HAMMOND FINAL RITES ARE HELD HERE ON MONDAY, JULY 12TH.

Irea Hammond of Goldthwaite, died Sunday, July 11, 1999 at Hillview Manor Nursing Home in Goldthwaite. She was 96 years of age. She was born in Regency, Mills County Texas on April 12, 1903, the daughter of Henry and Gertrude (Singleton) Jamer. She moved with her family at age nine years to Comanche County.
She married Allen Chaney in Comanche County in 1921. They had four children. The youngest died at 18 months of age. The couple divorced in 1927. She married George Hammond in 1930 and moved to Mills County and lived here most of her life. He preceded her in death in 1950 and their daughter from that union, Nelda Charlene Tigner passed away in 1996.
Irea Hammond was an avid gardener and loved to fish. She knew the location of almost every tank in Mills County and fished most of them at one time or another. Once when she was fishing she fell and
broke a hip and as luck would have it she had someone with her to get assistance.
Mrs. Hammond was a housekeeper for many families in Mills County. She was also a cafe cook in Mills County and she also cooked at the
Auction Barn. She was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church at Mt. Olive since 1950.
She is survived by three children, Perney Chaney of Clifton, Jack (Whiz) Chaney of Mullin, and Vernell Cunningham of Goldthwaite; one brother, Truman Jamer of San Angelo; two sister, Mrs. Kollie Gaddy of Odessa and Mrs. Estallee DeWitt of Goldthwaite; nine grand children; 17 great grand children; and 13 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by four step-daughters-in-law, Mrs Inez Hammond, Mrs Merlene Hammond, Mrs Anna Beth Hammond all of Goldthwaite, and Mrs Malta Hammond of Andrews.
The funeral was Monday, July 12, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. at the Stacy Wilkins Funeral Home Chapel in Goldthwaite. Terry Jackson, minister of the Goldthwaite Church of Christ, officiated at the final rites. Interment was in the Rock Springs Cemetery, Mills County Texas.
