She was born in Whitingham, Vermont, January 31, 1914, the daughter of Dexter and Mary (Barnes) Dalrymple. She grew up in Whitingham attending local schools.
On November 24, 1932, she married John E. Allen in Orange, Mass. The couple moved to Brattleboro, Vermont, later settling in Marlborough where they raised their two children.
Mrs. Allen worked for many years at the former Minnewawa Woven Label Manufacturing Company in Marlborough. She also owned and operated several rooming houses, as well as a gift shop. She was a longtime member of the Federated Church of Marlborough and the Rebecca's. She enjoyed sewing, weaving, crocheting, plants and gardening. She especially enjoyed time with her family and her cat Max.
Her husband of 33 years, John E. Allen, died in 1965, a son, John Dewey Allen, died in 2007, a daughter, Gloria Jane Rathbone died in 2003, and a grandson, Dustin Jay Allen, died December 25, 1969.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 9:30 AM in the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene. Rev. Marilyn Ayer, Pastor of the Federated Church of Marlborough, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Monadnock View Cemetery, Park Avenue, Keene.
