Born July 18, 1933, in Burlington, he was the son of Robert and Mary Fleming. On Aug. 25, 1956, he married Mary Carolyn Beckman in Sperry. She preceded him in death. Later, he married Cathy Schneider Allsup.
Mr. Fleming grew up in Burlington. After graduating from high school, he attended Xavier University in Cincinnati and then did a short stint in the Army before returning to college at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. In the mid-1950s, he and his first wife settled in Denver, where he was self-employed as a manufacturer's representative in the building materials industry for many years.
While he was young, his family vacationed in Estes Park, Colo., which spawned a dream of someday living in Colorado. All his grandchildren were crazy about their "Poppie." He enjoyed playing the role of Santa over the phone for grandchildren when they called the North Pole. He was a man of faith. He was generous and charitable, and for years, he volunteered at the Samaritan House and contributed to many other causes. He loved to travel, golf and play tennis. He started many family traditions and vacations. He was known for his wonderful sense of humor, his quick wit, his salesmanship, his great storytelling and his gift for making people laugh.
Survivors include his second wife; four children, Karen Flater, Mike Fleming, Matt Fleming and Eddie Fleming, all of Littleton; five stepchildren; 17 grandchildren; 15 stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister, Sheila Fleming of Evanston, Ill.; three brothers, Bob and Joe Fleming, both of Burlington, and John Fleming, of Valrico, Fla.; and numerous extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, first wife and one daughter in infancy.
