ALBANY—Leonard Alfred, age 77, of the Massry Residence on Washington Avenue Extension in Albany, died Thursday, July 25, 2002 at the Daughter's of Sarah Nursing Home.

Mr. Alfred was born in Albany and was a lifelong resident. He was the son of the late David and Lena Alfred. He was a graduate of the Albany High School and attended the Ripon College in Wisconsin. He was the co-founder of Alfred's Fabric Centers in the Capital District area and retired 15 years ago. He was a 50 year member of Albany City Lodge #540 Knights of Pythias in Albany. He was also a member of Temple Israel in Albany for many years and was an Army veteran serving during World War II. Leonard was very devoted to his family and touched the lives of many. He will be sadly missed. He will also be remembered for the many business relationships that he established over the years and was a respected member of the Capital District Jewish Community.

He is survived by his wife, Madeline Spellman Alfred; three sons, Lawrence Alfred of Guilderland, NY, Charles Alfred of West Palm Beach, FL and Steven Alfred of Albany; a daughter, Amy Greenebaum of Highland Park, IL. He is also survived by four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Nathan, Reuben, and Harold Alfred; and a sister, Eleanor Carr.

Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Ave., Albany on Sunday, July 28, 2002 at 9:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will follow in the family plot at the Temple Israel Cemetery in Guilderland, NY. The period of mourning will be observed at the home of Lawrence Alfred, 224 Bentwood Court West, in Guilderland on Sunday and Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
