Elva Anna "Ann" (Norris) Askew, 82, Lakeside-Marblehead, and formerly of Marion, Ohio, passed away at Magruder Hospital, Port Clinton, Friday, Oct. 5, 2012. Ann was surrounded by her family and her physician as she slipped away quietly.
She was born June 24, 1930, to Francis and Beatrice Naomi Thurston Norris in Plankton, Ohio. Ann was a 1948 graduate of Marion Harding. She had four siblings, a brother, Calvin Norris, deceased, and three sisters, Madge Colby, Dorothy Millington, and Mary (John) Moodie, all of Marion.
She married James L. Askew on Feb. 23, 1949. They had five children; four daughters, Judi Askew (Terry) Robinson of Wayne, Ohio, Peggy Askew (Dennis) Zimmerman of Vermilion, Paula (Jeff) Webb, deceased, Melissa Askew (Donald Jr.) Reid of Marion, and a son, Robert (Natalie) Askew of New Bloomington, Ohio.
They have 15 grand children; Eric (Melissa) Robinson, of Wayne, Emily Robinson (Steven) Kauffman of Columbus, Jonathan (Tonya) Robinson of Blacklick, Ohio, Jeremy (Elisha) Robinson of Risingsun, Ohio, Benjamin (Megumi) Robinson of Columbus, Elizabeth Robinson (Andrew) Lanker of Lewis Center, Ohio, Megan Zimmerman of Lakewood, Ohio, Aaron (Ashlea) Zimmerman of Lakewood, Samantha and Stephanie Webb of Richwood, Ohio, Erica and R. J. Reid of Marion, and Nathaniel, Caitlin and Mitchell Askew, all of New Bloomington. Ann is also survived by 15 great-grand children, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ann was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, Marion, where she served as a deacon. She was a leader in the Presbyterian Women and a member of the Martha Circle. She was also a member of the Marion Power Squadron Auxiliary. Prior to her illness, she enjoyed bowling and walking with her sisters.
Her mother, father, brother and one daughter precede her in death.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funereal Directors, 347 W. Center St., Marion. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at the First Presbyterian Church, 143 S. Prospect St., Marion, with Rev. Robert Howard officiating. Graveside service will be at the Claiborne Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church or the American Diabetes Association.
