From the Mining Review of March 17, 1900, came the report of an avalanche on a Sunday afternoon above the town of Sandon which injured four and killed one person. The avalanche wiped out at least five buildings near the Ruth Mine including the cabin of W. McLeod. His body was found under the stump of a large tree amidst the shattered ruins of the cabin. He had been a night watchman for the Ruth for some time. A bachelor of about forty years old, he came from Prince Edward Island. His thrifty ways had netted him property in Edmonton, Washington, Dakota and his native place.
