Lucille Anderson, 79
Lucille Anderson, 79, rural Osakis, passed away at her home on Saturday evening, March 7, 2009.
Lucille was born July 24, 1929 to Clayton and Rosa (Groenwaldt) Van Wie. She graduated from Alexandria High School in 1947. Lucille worked in Alexandria for American Laundry and then at Alexandria Electric as a bookkeeper. On April 30th, 1949 Lucille was united in marriage to Natyn Anderson in South Dakota. They returned to farm in Osakis Township, Douglas County, for many years. Lucille enjoyed country life and in addition to raising their three children, she also helped on the farm by raising chickens, ducks, geese, sheep, pigs and cows.
Lucille was an active member of United Methodist Church in Osakis and served as president of the Methodist Women's association for many years and taught Sunday school. She also belonged to the Osakis Senior Center, Memorial Home Auxiliary and met regularly with a homemakers' group. She was also a 4-H leader for the Fancy Farmers 4-H Club. Some of her favorite things included bowling, square dancing, traveling, playing cards, and letter writing.
She was a wonderful cook who raised a large garden each year and canned enough produce to feed her family all winter long. Every Christmas she made a lutefisk dinner for Natyn. At flea markets and garage sales, Lucille was always on the lookout to add to her collection of antique cream pitchers. Other hobbies she enjoyed were making homemade wines, knitting, reading and doing word puzzles. She was a loving wife, mother, grandma and sister who will be dearly missed by her family, neighbors and friends. Blessed be her memory.
She is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Natyn Anderson of Osakis; children, Herbert (Gloria) Anderson of New Ulm, Roslyn Zippa of Maple Grove, Gary (Sally) Anderson of Kansas City, MO; six grandchildren; two great grandsons; and one brother Everett (Mary) Van Wie of Scandia.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and a brother Russel Van Wie.
Memorial services will be held for Lucille on Saturday, March 14, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Osakis with the Rev. Mark Bateson officiating. Organist is Janet Sampson. Inurnment will be at Nelson Cemetery in Nelson, Minnesota.
