Mary was the daughter of Dr. Richard W. Dunlap and his wife Sarah Bailey of Danville, Boyle, Kentucky.
She attended Wellesley College in Massachusetts in 1889 through 1890. She married Dudley M. Bowman, Jr. on September 9, 1891 in Danville. They had two children, Catherine D. and Dudley M. Bowman. The family lived for several decades in Kansas City, Jackson, Missouri. After the death of her husband, Mary lived with her son-in-law, James H. Batchelor, daughter Catherine, grandson Dudley and her brother Lee Dunlap.
Mary eventually returned to Kentucky, where she died.
