Bud was born Aug. 25, 1925, in Canton, the oldest of five children to Adrian R. and Vera (Nouse) Coates. He was a 1943 graduate of Canton Timken Vocational High School and served 21 months as an Aviation Cadet with the U.S. Army Air Force until the conclusion of World War II. He attended the University of Cincinnati and moved to Holmes County in 1947, where he ran a farm and ultimately married Naomi Megee on Jan. 18, 1947. He was also on the Board of Trustees at Round Lake Christian Assembly, serving as secretary from 1975-1989. Bud very much enjoyed spending time with his family.
