It is interesting to note that a Reuben Rambo, who lived nearby in Leake County, owned land in Holmes County (per land deeds). It is highly possible that Reuben was the father of Jesse Rambo; there is a confirmed DNA match between myself and John Rambo (a descendant of Jesse) which indicates it likely that Reuben is Jesse's father. Reuben had other children in that area and Louisiana. They were Ransom Rambo (that lived in Attala County, Mississippi and later Rapides and Grant Parishes in Lousiana); Martha (Rambo) Calcote who lived in Mississippi and Bienville, Jackson and Grant Parishes of Louisiana; William "Will" Calvin Rambo who lived in Grant Parish, Louisiana and Milam County, Texas; Joseph Rambo (also of Gray's 28th LA Inf) who lived in Attala County, Mississippi and Jackson and Grant Parishes of Louisiana. The places of burial of Reuben Rambo, Martha (Rambo) Calcote, William "Will" Calvin Rambo, Jesse Rambo and Joseph Rambo are not definitely known at this time.
Jesse Rambo fought fought for the Confederacy during the war and was shot in the leg. Being wounded, he returned home for a period to heal. After his leg had mended, he reported to the army, got on his mule and said, "I'm goin' to kill that damn Yankee that shot me." He never returned. When Jesse never came back, Amanda remarried to Hugh Cameron (This information was courtesy of Mr. John Rambo of Jacksonville, Florida from the line of Hugh Cameron Rambo). Amanda had at least one child by Hugh named, Archie (may have been short for Archibald).
After the war between the states (and by the time of the 1880 Coryell County, Texas Census) Amanda shows up in Texas married to a John T. Darnell. There is a John T. Darnell that was committed to the Austin State Hospital. This is not the same Darnell. The Darnell that died in the insane asylum is a relative of another cousin of mine - Carol Hodges - who researched this matter and related to me that the John T. Darnell that was married to Amanda Waddell was shot in the 1880s. It has now also been confirmed through newspaper articles that John and Lafayette "Fayette" Darnell were waylaid on 18 Sep 1887 by Newt Blackwell (brother of Rev. Dick Blackwell who'd been killed about eight weeks earlier) and another man due to an ongoing feud . John T. Darnell was shot and killed instantly.
On 9th September 1893, Amanda "Mandy" C. (Waddell) Rambo Darnell remarried to a John Dolan, Dooland or Doolen in Coryell County, Texas. This man was from Ireland, known to the Darnell family and was a boarder at Lafayette Darnell's per the 1880 US Federal Census. By the time of the 1900 Goldthwaite, Mills County, Texas Census, Amanda C. Dolan is shown living with her son-in-law that married Ida Darnell (Ida married Charles Rahl who seems to have died due to epilepsy in The North Texas Hospital For The Insane, according to death records).
