Ethel Irene Clark was born on August 19, 1892 in Audubon County, Iowa. She was one of 14 children of Riley Ponder and Hattie (Reed) Clark. On 1 February, 1913 she was united in marriage to Benjamin James Whitmore and to this union they had two daughters, Elloween Harriet born 6 August, 1914 and Evelyn May born 24 November, 1915. They lived and farmed in Audubon County for years, sometime before the year 1933 they had separated because she remarried in 21 September, 1933 to Vern Ira Lillie. Vern was born on 25 June, 1890 and was a local farmer near Guthrie Center. Ethel and Vern most of their life in Guthrie County, till her death on 30 Dec 1985 in Storm Lake, Buena Vista County, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Vern; four brothers, two sisters and one grandchild Shiley Bell.
She is buried beside Vern in the Union Cemetery at Guthrie Center, Guthrie County, Iowa.
