Pearl was born Pearl Edna Black. For some reason, she and her sisters all changed their names, either first, middle or both. Pearl changed her middle name from Edna to Verda.

She was married, but no mention of her husband was made in her obituary, printed in the Vancouver newspaper on 11 December 1937. Her four living sisters were mentioned, but no children.
