A strong and sometimes funny woman, my great-grandmother always had two looks that stay in my memory, a twinkle when she was happy and a very "angry" stare if she wasn't! We use to sit in the back seat of my grand-daddy's Ford talking about recipes for healing and how much we loved orange sherbet. Sitting on the back porch of my Uncle Cleo churning milk into butter or making ice cream, she taught me many things that continue to reflect in my life today.
Delila "Delilah" Elizabeth Stephens "Stevens" Eddings was born in Texas either in Lavaca or Fannin county to a hard working Aaron Stephens "Stevens" and Elizabeth Leonora "Eliza L" Beeman. Her siblings babied her every chance they could but Delila liked learning and doing things on her own. The family moved to the Oklahoma territory and unfortunately she was only a child when her mom passed away. Her father passed shortly after her marriage to Baker Duey Caswell Eddings. They married in 19 Jan 1902 in the Chickasaw Nation, Tishomingo, (Johnston county) Oklahoma. By 1910 census, they were in their home in Marshall county and did not venture too far from the rest of the family. Their children:
Aaron Caswell "Edd" Eddings
1904 – 1973
Maggie May Lucy Eddings
1908 – 1983
Dollie Bell Florence Virginia Eddings
1912 – 1988
Essie "Eva" "Eva Effie" Eddings
1914 – 1932
Baker Caswell "B.C." Eddings
1916 – 1988
Cleo Eddings
1918 – 1987
Jocie Obie Katie Altia Gladys Eddings
1921 – 1977
Janet Violet Leta "Janie" "Mary Jane" Eddings
1923 – 1994
She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and she is missed.
