A kinder, more gentle soul you will never meet. Cliff was a true "gentleman" and was loved by all who knew him, no matter how brief. He will be forever loved and remembered fondly until it is time that we all meet again in Heaven. I thank Cliff for always having a smile on his face and truly living up to the sign posted on his deck "No foul moods around here." I will miss you, my friend...

Clifford Duffy, 88, a longtime The Dalles, Ore., resident, died in his sleep Sept. 22, 2012, in Portland, Ore.
He was born March 21, 1924, in Pendleton, Ore., the son of Matthew and Emma (Kramer) Duffy. At a young age the family moved to The Dalles. After graduating from The Dalles High School in 1942, he enlisted with the United States Navy, serving four years. He served as a gunner's mate second class on the USS Louisville and the USS Bexar in the Pacific.
After his honorable discharge, he returned to The Dalles and met Doris "Brick" Wilson through his best friend Homer Baker and his wife Phyllis, Brick's sister. They were married Sept. 12, 1947, in Portland and to this union five children were born, one of which died at an early age. (click here for Baby Girl Duffy)
Clifford worked his way up from apprentice carpenter, to become a general contractor, owning Duffy Construction from 1956 until his retirement in 2004. He built numerous homes in The Dalles and institutional and commercial projects in Oregon and Washington.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting but his real passion was flying. He received his private pilot license when he was 63, had his own plane, enjoyed going to "fly-ins" and embarked upon occasional extended cross-country trips. In 2005, at the age of 81, he hung up his pilot's cap and stopped flying.
He was preceded in death by his wife "Brick" in 2005, son Todd in 1980 and sister, Berneice Morris.
Clifford is survived by his sons, Kent Duffy, Portland; Brad Duffy, Aberdeen, Wash.; daughter, Lynda Duffy, Portland; sister, Norma Anderson, of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service is set for Saturday, Oct. 6, at 11 a.m., at the Odd Fellows Cemetery. A reception will follow at Cousins Restaurant.
