Cornelius was born in Hardy Co., Viginia (now WV), son of Jacob Baker and Jemima Ashbrook.
He came to Illinois in 1851. Cornelies was twice married:
1815 to Phoebe Switzer (1795-1829) 7 children
1830 to Lydia Arnett ((1807-1843) 9 children

1865 Quincy Whig obit states he died at the home of his son, Aaron Barker in Richfield, IL
