"Jimmy," as he was affectionately known to all of his many friends and colleagues, was born into a prominent Santa Rosa family of civic and business leaders. His father had served as city Mayor, and was the founder of a highly successful hardware store, on Fourth street, that Jimmy inherited.
The Mailer Hardware Company was his only employment. Starting at a young age, he learned the trade from his father, and as owner he was widely respected for his honesty & integrity.
He was active in fraternal orders, and as a life-long member of the Masonic Fraternity, he had been chosen to receive a much-coveted and distinguished award, as a 33rd degree Scottish Mason, for his long & faithful service to Masonry. Unfortunately, there was a vacant chair at the ceremony, as he did not live to wear the medal & insignia on his uniform.
He never married, and lived his entire life of 65 years in the home of his parents, on Third street, with his sister, Jessie, who died at age 68, just 10 days after the passing of her dearly beloved brother in November 1945.
This trip also included a visit to bottling works owner William Hudson.
