She was born on Oct. 10, 1944 in Rochelle to Eneval and Jeanette (Winterton) Askeland. Joanne graduated from Rochelle Township High School in 1962 and worked for Del Monte early in her career.
She married Doug Fisher on August 27,1983 in Rochelle and together they created and ran a successful consulting business for many years. Joanne was a lifelong member of Faith Lutheran Church and gave her time and talents selflessly. She spent many hours playing clarinet for the Rochelle Municipal Band in the summer and was an avid quilter,baker and gardner. Joanne attended many events at Rochelle Township High School and was a loving friend and mentor to some of the students.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Eneval and Jeanette Askeland. Survivors include her loving husband, Doug, of Rochelle; brother, Jerry (Linda) Askeland of Mt. Prospect; stepson, Mike (Laura) Fisher of Birmingham, Ala.; step-grandchildren, Daily and Isabel Fisher; nephews, Tim (Sue) Askeland and Chris (Christine) Askland; niece, Lisa (Mark) Mansuetti; great-nephews, Kyle and Cooper; and two great-nieces, Jenna and Claire.
Services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Rochelle, on Monday, Oct. 1 at 10:30a.m. with Rev. Steve Dow officiating. Visitation at Unger-Horner Funeral Home in Rochelle on Sunday, Sept. 30 from 2 to 6 p.m. Burial will be at St. Patrick Cemetery in Rochelle.
Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church or to Serenity Hospice and Home.
