He was born June 15, 1919, in DeRuyter, the son of Elwin and Rose Storey Allen, and had been a area resident all his life.
He retired from Wilson Sporting Goods Co., Cortland, in 1981.
He was predeceased by his wife, Grace Mead Allen, in 1982.
Surviving are three sons, Michael Allen of Cortland, Larry Allen of East Freetown and Stanley Root of Syracuse; a daughter, Mrs. Jim (Shirley) Doty of Groton; a brother, Jerry Smith of Marathon; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave. Interment will be in Taylor Cemetery.
