Mary Jane Galer's "Columbus, Georgia: Lists of People in the Town, 1828-1852, and Sexton's Reports to 1866" (2000), p. 250, says Priv. James Clark of Company G, 54th Regiment, Georgia (no age or cause of death reported; specific date of burial not given - from separate list of soldiers at the end of "October 1 to December 31, 1864, report of the Sexton for the quarter," dated 16 JAN 1865). These are most likely soldiers who died at one of the several Confederate hospitals that had been set up in Columbus. All of the soldiers on this particular list who have identified graves are in the Upper Confederate Section (Section L in Dolores Autry's "Historic Linwood Cemetery" book, Volume 3).
The list from a 1943 survey of Linwood Cemetery made by the LDS Southern States Mission says G. Clark (Co. E, 44th, Ga. C. S. A. 1861 - 1865)
Graves are numbered from south to north. The inscriptions in the Upper Confederate Section are on the west face of the headstone (whereas they're on the east face of headstones in the Lower Confederate Section). Graves in Row 2, in order: (1) John Powers, (2) James Clark, (3) Fowler Phillips, (4) M. Hadler Hampton, (5) John King or Fanning, (6) T. B. Shelton, (7) W. G. James, (8) Richard E. Rainey, (9) L. B. Ashcraft, (10) Jesse Chatt, (11) William Sullivan (12) Clayton Berks, (13) UNKNOWN, (14) B. or S. A. Castile, (15) Augustus L. "Gus" Short, (16) J. H. Echols. Row numbers are from the Historic Linwood Cemetery book by Autry, edited by Dowd and others, but graves as listed in Autry/Dowd sometimes not in burial order. They usually mentioned the "unknown" graves at end of each row listing
