HOME NEWS TRIBUNE - Nov. 24, 1978:
Two Manville men were killed in a North Carolina car accident and several other motorists were injured in collisions on Central Jersey's rain-slicked roadways over the Thanksgiving holiday. The dead men, Alex Szerwiel, 20, and Charles Kopsco, 23, had been driving through Smithfield, N.C., on a return trip from Florida Wednesday morning at the time of the incident, according to Trooper S.E. Wilson.

...Born in Somervielle, Szerwiel lived in Manville most of his life. He was a graduate of the Somerset County Vocation and Technical School in Bridgewater, and was employed by Imparts East in South Plainfield.

Surviving are his parents, John and Pauline Szerwiel; three sisters, Sheila of Dallas, Denise of Piscataway, and Nadene, at home; his paternal grandmother, Helen Szerweil of Manville; and his maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Lesko of Hazelton, P.A.

Services will be at 10:30 am tomorrow at the Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St. Manville. Burial will follow in Lake Nelson Memorial Park, Piscataway.
