Son of Philip Farrar and Polly Pierce.

Two birth records have been found in the Buckfield, Maine town records. One gives date as 24 Jan 1811, the other as 28 Jan 1811. The birth date on his apparent gravestone seems to be an error.

He married Betsy Orson Bessey on 11 May 1834 in Oxford County, Maine. They had 9 children:
