Tanner, Ex-Trustee
At Baylor, Dies

John S. Tanner, 74, of 6807 Avalon, who was elected to the Baylor University Athletic Hall of Fame and served on the university's board of trustees for 13 years, died Monday in a Dallas hospital.

Tanner, a 1923 graduate of Baylor, served as the permanent class president and was elected to the Athletic Hall of Fame in 1967. He also played on the school's first championship football team in the 1922-23 season.

He was named executive vice-president of the Austin Bridge Co., Inc. in 1944 and president of service Equipment Co., a subsidiary of Austin bridge, in 1952. He retired in 1968 after 43 years there.

Tanner was also a deacon and member at East Grand Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in East Grand Baptist Church. Burial will be in Restland Memorial Park.

He is survived by his wife, Marye, two daughters, two sons, two sisters, and eight grandchildren.
