BURLINGTON — Brownley Thornton Stewart, age 93, of Burlington, W.Va., passed away on Thursday, Jan 6, 201l, at his home on Patterson Creek Road. Mr. Stewart was born April 7, 1917, in Williamsport, Grant County, W.Va., and was a son of the late Homer W. Stewart and Mary E. "Molly"(Smith) Stewart. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Jane (Dalton) Stewart, in 1986; an infant son, Don Homer Stewart; six brothers, Wilson Stewart, Charles Stewart, Pearl Stewart, Ernest Stewart, Kendall Stewart and Stanley Stewart; and one sister, Mary Elizabeth "Sipper" Stewart. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Army in the British Isles. Brownley was self-employed for many years as a carpenter/contractor. He was a life-long member of St. Paul United Methodist Church at Williamsport. Surviving are his children, Donna Jerrie Stewart-Price and husband Cyril of Stone Ridge, New York; Joyce E. Stewart of Burlington, and Wayne T. Stewart of Keyser; one sister-in-law, Patsy Dalton of Chillicothe, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, W.Va. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 8, at 1 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Williamsport, W.Va., with the Rev. Ann W. Harrison officiating. Interment will be at the Green Hill Cemetery, Williamsport, W.Va., with military graveside rites by the Petersburg VFW Post 6454 and the West Virginia Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Mountain Hospice, 1600 Crim Avenue, Belington, WV 26250 or to the St. Paul United Methodist Church, c/o Lucille Stewart, HC 84, Box 150, Lahmansville, WV 26731.
